27 kwi 2024 · An umbilical hernia is a section of intestinal tissue that bulges out of place near the navel (belly button), where the umbilical cord is attached before birth. It is most common in newborns or babies under 6 months old, but older children and adults can also have one.
An umbilical hernia occurs when part of the intestine or fatty tissue bulges through the muscle near the belly button (navel, umbilicus). Most adult umbilical hernias are caused by increased abdominal pressure against a weak abdominal wall (acquired hernia).
