Lane Pryce is a fictional character in the television series Mad Men, portrayed by Jared Harris. [1] A British newcomer to the United States as of 1963, he initially acts as financial officer at Sterling Cooper but eventually leaves along with a handful of his co-workers to form new agency Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce.
I saw Lane as a glass of water in a scotch soaked world; he was neither good nor bad, he just blended into his environment like a chameleon. He had a tendency to do want others wanted him to do, didn’t put up much of a fight (until he literally did), and occasionally flirted awkwardly with Joan.

For me at least Lane Pryce represents a really special world-historical moment. Pryce is the financials guy—he doesn’t engage with the creative vision of SCDP. Instead, he puts his energy into the raw rationalization of capital and labor. Efficiency is its own end.
