The City Planning and Development Department guides future physical and economic development. Staff in this department manages development policy, conducts research and supports the City’s long-term vision.
KC Water’s Smart Sewer program is a 30-year, multibillion-dollar plan to reduce the volume of overflows from the City’s sewer systems. What were once underutilized spaces are now a beautiful park, an urban orchard, and stormwater-collecting basins that serve the community in more ways than one.
Throughout Kansas City, green infrastructure helps us manage stormwater the way nature intended by capturing and utilizing rainwater where it falls. It decreases the amount of water getting into our pipes, improves water quality, and reduces flooding, pollution, and trash in our creeks, streams, and rivers.
