Developed by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, the Preserve on Rathbun Lake golf course lies within the 800-acre Honey Creek Resort State Park and it’s a design from the firm of Herfort Norby Golf Course Architects that first opened its doors to golfers in 2008.

The Preserve at Lake Rathbun is about 90 miles southeast of Des Moines in central Iowa in the new Honey Creek State Park. The golf course wanders over 240 acres of rolling land on Rathbun Lake with a good change of pace to the holes as some are tree lined while others are links-like bordered by tall prairie grasses in open meadows.
The Preserve is designed to suit golfers of every age and skill level. With a perfect blend of great golf and natural landscapes, the 7,000-yard course meanders through scenic prairie and oak savannas, and is Audubon-certified in recognition of its sustainable practices.
