13 lut 2019 · Pyroclastic flows known as lahars easily overran the slopes of Pinatubo, engulfing gullies as deep as 200 meters. The Aeta tribes that lived on the slopes lost their entire world. The mountain and centuries-old forests they knew were wiped out and replaced by a barren and unfriendly place.
Several smaller lahars washed through the Clark Air Base, flowing across the base in enormously powerful sheets, slamming into buildings and scattering cars. Nearly every bridge within 30 km (19 mi) of Mount Pinatubo was destroyed. Several lowland towns were flooded or partially buried in mud.
In August 1991, 2 months after Mount Pinatubo, Philippines, exploded in a cataclysmic volcanic eruption, this house (see roof) along the Sacobia-Bamban River 15 miles from the volcano was buried by a fast-moving mudflow of volcanic ash and debris (lahar) caused by heavy rains.

1 paź 2008 · When the Spaniards conquered the Pampanga region north of Manila Bay and southeast of Mount Pinatubo in 1571, Austronesian-speaking, Muslim, Kapampangan agriculturists were already well-established there, but apparently had no tradition of a large eruption.
Within hours, heavy rains began to wash this material down into the surrounding lowlands in giant, fast-moving mudflows called lahars. In the next four rainy seasons, lahars carried about half of the deposits off the volcano, causing even more destruction in the lowlands than the eruption itself.
25 wrz 2022 · These rains could generate volcanic sediment flows or lahars, muddy streamflows or muddy run-off in rivers and drainage areas on Pinatubo and Taal volcanoes. DOST-PHIVOLCS thus strongly recommends increased vigilance and readiness of communities in pre-determined zones of lahar and related hazards on these volcanoes.
