you have to have it hosted on a site. if you rent a game server from from some gsp like gameservers you have a free site that comes with it or if your rent space like myself. the host banner size is 400x80 pixel jpg. it looks crazy on the link above but works perfectly in game.
There's a lot of notable differences between L4D1 and L4D2, but unless you want to experience the original feeling and slight differences in Gameplay that L4D1 has, there's no reason to buy it. Some campaign events play out differently in L4D1, many were turned into endless hordes in the L4D2 ports.
