Koga-Miyata is both a brand for the performance orientated cycling enthousiast and a luxury brand. The brand is premium and every bikeshop sales clerk will tell you that with a Koga you are buying "the Mercedes (or Roller) of bicycles".
Miyata started with the use of Japanese components of Shimano. The design and assemblage of the bicycles was done by hand in the Netherlands. At first Koga Miyata only produced racing bicycles. In 1976 they added a range of randonneurs or touring bicycles, and in 1986 mountain bikes.
Once Koga had become an importer of Shimano components, a network developed including other Japanese cycle manufacturers. Among them was Miyata, a company which at this time had already been producing cycle frames for 80 years which led to the creation of Koga Miyata bicycles.

The TerraRunner was an upper-midrange mountainbike model from Koga-Miyata. The TerraRunner was introduced in 1986, so it is part of the Koga off road line up from the beginning. 1986-1990: the steel TerraRunner. From 1986 to 1991 TerraRunners had a nice steel frame: full Hardtlite FM-1 Spiral Spline tubing, lugged construction.
The ValleyRunner was a Koga-Miyata mountainbike offering from 1988 to 1993. Entry level or one model from the bottom, depening on whether the ForeRunner was available.
