A familiar is a creature that assists an adventurer in various ways, such as by attacking enemies, helping to earn more meat or items, helping to regain HP and/or MP, and by increasing stat gains from battles. To get a familiar, you must first have a Familiar-Gro™ Terrarium installed at your campsite.

Currently lvl 11 Pasta with an animated macaroni duck. And I find myself dying and running out of mana far, far more often than a lvl 10/11 Sauceror with a Pet Cheezling. My Sauceror ran around...

Loathing universe. Asymmetric has made three Loathing games (Kingdom of Loathing, West of Loathing, and Shadows over Loathing). Shadows over Loathing is explicitly set in the same world as West of Loathing, and there are some KoL references in both other games as well.
