King Mongkut (Rama IV, ruled 1851-68) was Thai rule featured in the film and Broadway musical “The King and I”. He kept Thailand free during a time when Southeast Asia was coming under the control of the European colonial powers and is considered one of the most important figures in Southeast Asian history.
It is a Thai version of the ancient Indian epic Ramayana, and an important part of the Thai literary canon. King Rama VI was the person who shed the light first on the Ramayana studies in Thailand, by tracing the sources of the Ramakien, comparing it with the Sanskrit Valmiki Ramayana.
The College was opened in 1899, and on April 1, 1902, it was renamed The Royal Pages School.
