This document contains all of the Minnesota kindergarten academic standards in the content areas of Arts, English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies*. For each content area there is a short overview followed by a coding diagram of how the standards are organized and displayed.
The Minnesota K-12 Academic Standards are the statewide expectations for student learning in public schools. The standards supplemented by benchmarks identify the knowledge and skills that all students must achieve in a content area by the end of a grade level or grade band.
In this section of Getting Started, actions and resources are recommended to help educator teams develop shared understanding of the standards and benchmarks in a content area. Read the Overview of Academic Standards to learn more about the guidance provided in the Actions below.
2020 Minnesota K-12 English Language Arts Standards (Commissioner Approved Draft)
The Kindergarten Academic Standards provide the foundation of what children should know at the end of the kindergarten year, not the how kindergarten students receive instruction. Kindergarten eligible children are not expected to meet these standards when they begin kindergarten.
