To return to Kerbin, you MUST leave Mun in its retrograde direction around Kerbin. That's the ONLY way you'd be traveling slower than Mun and therefore have a lower Pe than Mun.
Dude, it's very simple. Get into Mun orbit. Then any escape attempt will place you first in an orbit around Kerbin and then around Kerbol itself. So, you only have to get a moderate escape from Mun orbit and almost surely you'll end orbiting Kerbin.

You can do this without maneuver nodes, just burn when you are in the right spot until your flight path changes. It’s tougher to nail precisely, but you can get to Mun orbit and back to Kerbin before upgrading Mission Control. Edit: Messed up position of Mun relative to Kerbin
3 kwi 2012 · The easiest way to get back to Kerbin from the Mun I found is to get in orbit eastward around the Mun, when you see Kerbin rise on the horizon, you boost prograde until an apoapsis of 5-10 millions meters. 13 millions is the real number, but it work below that if you\'re low on fuel.
I got back to kerbin from orbit around the mun with only like 330 m/s delta V. I escaped munar orbit and went into a higher orbit around Kerbin. Once I reached apoapsis I did a retrograde burn and went on a highly elliptical orbit that intersected Kerbin’s atmosphere.
