12 mar 2022 · Civil war headgear goes for thousands, post war kepis are a few hundred. When headgear was changed in 1872 the measurements of the cap were changed. The crown shrunk to 2 inches as civil war ones are taller in the front depending on the hat style.

In the United States, the kepi is most often associated with the American Civil War era, and continued into the Indian Wars. Union soldiers were generally issued kepis for fatigue use. A close copy of the contemporary French kepi, [12] it had a sunken top and squared visor.
