I traded for a 340 a couple of years ago to have a 'beater' that i didn't have to worry too much about ... and i gotta tell you, Kentucky's A models are the most 'bang for the buck' in the $200-$400 price range hands down!
I have been looking at the KM 250s based on price and ratings at musiciansfriend.com. I was wondering if there is any one with some advice on this mandolin, or if there are any suggestions on a good mandolin in the $200-400 range.
Any KM-250s from China would be all solid. In general, the later the better as far as the year. Even in the early China years, these were the best mandolins at the price point. Nothing wrong with the early Chinese versions, they just got better as time went on.

Price Paid: $249 ($US) (bought USED) Sound. This mandolin suprisingly has a very balanced sound. Mostly on the brighter side, but can really bark on the middle and bass strings as well.
The main differences will be that the KM-250 Mandolin uses slightly higher grades of woods, upgraded tuners and has a radiused fingerboard. Whether or not the flat fingerboard on the KM-150 is a disadvantaged, is really more of a personal call.
