It is a large Gothic castle founded in 1348 by King Charles IV. The castle served as a place for safekeeping the Imperial Regalia as well as the Bohemian Crown Jewels, holy relics, and other royal treasures. Karlštejn is among the most famous and most frequently visited castles in the country.
Historia. Karlštejn został ufundowany przez czeskiego króla, późniejszego cesarza Karola IV Luksemburczyka, z inicjatywy którego prace budowlane nad zamkiem rozpoczęto około 1348 roku.
