4 sty 2011 · If the volt meter reads 12 volts, replace the electric PTO. Most John Deere lawn mowers are equipped with an electric PTO (Power Take Off). The PTO is the mechanism that turns on the blades located under the mower deck. The PTO works off of a 12-volt system.

PTO won't start mower deck. I'm having an unfamiliar problem with a John Deere E170, purchased in 2019. Started earlier this week when mowing. The mowing deck stopped operating. No odd noises, no squealing of belts, just stopped operating.
