You can watch a number of Japanese TV options with several pay companies such as myplanettv but I don't think they have subtitles. 30 votes, 15 comments. Where can I watch or stream Japanese tv channels, if they have subtitles that would be a plus thank you!

Japanese TV as a whole sucks because of commercials the length of infomercials. I live in Japan and my daughter uses YouTube to watch Japanese content.

For news, there's at least one 24-hr streaming news channel on YouTube. What I'm getting at is depending on what you want to watch, you may not need a TV tuner. I dunno what TV you have, but if it has Google TV you can create a Japanese account and be able to download all the streaming apps to it.
