  1. Nexus is probably the safest place to get mods for your games. Forcing premium and "custom downloader" in your face and then also requiring registration for one simple mode looks very fishy to me. 11 votes, 10 comments. I'm new to PC games, have skyrim on steam, and want to begin modding it.

  2. Yes it's safe. With extremely extremely few exceptions, mods are NOT executable software. They're just a set of record changes. Impossible for viruses infect them. Trojans are always possible of course, which is why you use Nexus instead of randomly downloading shit from a link someone posted. Nexus scans all their mods.

  3. Nexus uses Virus Total for its virus scan. You can view the files within a download if you're suspicious. (Just click "Preview File Contents" on the mod file.) You can just download manually then scan with Windows or Malwarebytes. Then install the archive into your mod manager.

  4. Stay protected by choosing trusted modders, reading user reviews, and regularly updating your mods for security. Is Nexus Mods Safe? Tips for Secure Downloads • Secure Nexus Modding • Learn...

  6. The Nexus is a legit mod site. It existed long before the workshop. They do, however, have fewer restrictions on their mods, so there may be some issued here and there, but it is unlikely you will have to deal with them as long as you read the mods reviews/comments first.
