Nexus is probably the safest place to get mods for your games. Forcing premium and "custom downloader" in your face and then also requiring registration for one simple mode looks very fishy to me. 11 votes, 10 comments. I'm new to PC games, have skyrim on steam, and want to begin modding it.

Is A pirated video game that works and has been scanned by windows defender safe?
Removed Tile Generation requirements. Tile Cleanup - removed more reflection requirements. Special Level Construction for Ledge Grass that acts as decor. Added Basic Scene Transition for Editor. Editor draws tiles, allows camera navigation with input. Added Grid UI, Coordinate Tracker Text, Room Counter to Editor.
It's pretty much exactly as advertised, steam games for free. Can't really work for any games with Multiplayer elements, but if there's a singleplayer game you want and you can't afford it (or want to try it out) then go for it.

The Nexus is a legit mod site. It existed long before the workshop. They do, however, have fewer restrictions on their mods, so there may be some issued here and there, but it is unlikely you will have to deal with them as long as you read the mods reviews/comments first.
It's not very likely at all. The files are moderated and contain pretty much only model, script and texture files that the game reads. Pretty much the only way for you to get infected is if you go clicking some unknown .exe files from recently uploaded files.
