I've always felt very safe there. I go for runs in the neighborhood and walk to both OTR and Clifton, so it's a perfect location for being near everything. The PP protestors can get annoying, don't be afraid to yell at them for taking up the whole sidewalk.

I'm in Prospect Hill which is part of Mt Auburn, but can be quite different at times than along Highland Ave or along Auburn Ave. I would almost consider these three distinct neighborhoods. Prospect Hill is very walkable and safe in my opinion.
