Clean first with Contact cleaner on a pipe cleaner, then 2-26 on a different pipe cleaner. The results are immediate and the track can be used right away. Once on the layout a monthly top clean with a rag and cleaner,then and a few drops of 2-26 on the rails and let the train spread it around.

10 gru 2020 · My guess is we are limited to using Lionel Track Cleaning Fluid. Is there a more effective fluid that won't damage the car? I believe there are other, more modern, track cleaning cars that are supposed to be better track cleaners than this Lionel car, and feel free to comment on any such car, but since I have the Postwar Lionel track cleaning ...
Manufacture of this car caused Lionel to replace the track cleaning fluid that had been used up to this point. It was flammable, and because of the sparks generated by the motor and the center rail pick-up could not be used with this unit.
