It will be in 2033, too. Yes it's pointless. There's no 8k media to consume (physical or steaming). You'd have to sit quite a bit closer to the TV than you're used to for a fairly minor visual improvement. 8k TVs also consume about twice as much power as a good 4k TV.

There's some for audio/video-philes. But really nothing worth going 8k yet. Plus the 8k tech is only worth it in OLED right now. While mini LEDs are nice, they really need to move to the micro LED infrastructure to make it worth it for LEDs TVs. As someone who bought an 8K tv, do not buy an 8K tv.
I saw over on Samsung's website that they are pimping 8k TVs now. Here's the problem, and it's a big one: with current bandwidth limitations and video compression, even 4k is barely being utilized. When video is compressed, it loses fine details- the very thing that 4k is supposed to deliver on.
Yeah, that explanation and close-up at the end with the alternating black/white lines was very informative. Also the 2 guys not being able to tell which is the 8k even when they're standing about 5 inches from the screens makes it obvious that 8k on current consumer-level televisions is a waste of money.
The sensor will be 8k. Samsung is the largest manufacturer of sensors sensors for use in smartphones in the world (though they pretty much exclusively make them for smartphones) and their flagship product at the moment is a 50MP/8k 1/1.12" sensor for smartphones.. The main differances are in the size of the sensor, and the lens in front of it.
Go with 4k, there wont be anything worth 8k till some years from now. Get the Q90T or Xh950. Being an early adopter of TV tech is simply a waste because by the time 8k content becomes mainstream your 'future-proofed' TV will be obsolete. You'll need at least an 85" TV to appreciate that bump in resolution as well.
No. I have that tv, the samsung q900r -> It's great but it made it worth it for me because I got a good deal, the 8k stuff is obviously a gimmick atm, the native youtube app doesnt even show actual 8k content on TV's yet, so unless you're running something off of a desktop in 8k then you'll just never really experience it, good tv in general ...
