From 144hz to 240hz you won't get significant difference. Only if you're into competitive gaming such as Csgo or esports would a 240hz monitor benefit you. If you can afford it, definitely go for 144hz monitor, as it's a lot smoother with general pc usage such as Web browsing as well as games.

I can tell the difference, but does it impact my competitiveness. No. I play Apex Legends and I love playing in the C2 now in 4k 120Hz vs the G9 5120 x 1440 240hz. OLED really makes the difference for clarity and details, but also I think me moving to 4k also has a huge impact.
As far as I know, a 240Hz LCD takes 4.2 ms (1000 * 1/240) to scanout the image. In other words, it draws the image faster than a 120Hz panel, which means less lag and less probability of tearing (in case you play with vsync off).
