Iron dragons are metal dragons. As with all adult dragons, iron dragons have the ability to breathe fire. Thus, protection such as an anti-dragon shield, dragonfire shield, antifire potions, or super antifire potions are essential. The combination of praying against magic and an antifire potion does not work against metal dragons.
Would recommend just point boosting with wilderness slayer or Turael + Konar boosting for a solid starting foundation of slayer points to skip these kinds of tasks, so really, there's never a reason to do a metal dragon task unless you're super unlucky.

An iron dragon may be encountered while training Dungeoneering, they normally appear alone in rooms in the furnished floors (floors 18-29), even on free-to-play servers, although they have been known to appear with other monsters. This monster uses a long-range dragonfire attack in addition to its regular dragonfire attack.
