Congress typically enacts Federal tax law in the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 (IRC). The sections of the IRC can be found in Title 26 of the United States Code (26 USC).
Step 1. Cite the Code using the initials I.R.C., and place a period after each capitalized letter. I.R.C. stands for the most current edition of the Internal Revenue Code. Step 2. After the I.R.C., leave a single space and enter the section symbol.
