14 maj 2024 · The TEC-9's infamy was cemented when it was named in the 1994 Federal Assault Weapons Ban in the United States, which targeted firearms deemed too dangerous for civilian ownership. Intratec responded by modifying the TEC-9 to comply with new regulations, renaming it the TEC-DC9.

Introduced in the 1980s, the TEC-9 was originally designed by George Kellgren, a Swedish firearms designer, and was produced by Intratec, a Miami-based firearms manufacturer. Its design traces back to the 1970s with the Interdynamic KG-99, a Swedish submachine gun intended for military use.
