2 gru 2019 · This critical review examines the challenges and opportunities facing the field of Biology Education Research (BER). Ongoing disciplinary fragmentation is identified as a force working in opposition to the development of unifying conceptual frameworks for living systems and for understanding student thinking about living systems.
We are pleased to see some BER journals recently announce upcoming special issues focusing on community college biology education (42) and urge BER societies, conferences, and journals to facilitate BER work on such understudied student populations.
It is the only major international conference whose focus lies exclusively on biology education research, and all the papers are written by international researchers from across Europe (and beyond) which report on a range of contemporary biology education research projects.
