The Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Nairobi is the leading tertiary healthcare training institution in Kenya and the East Africa region. It was established in 1985 from the then Faculty of Medicine which had been in existence since 3 rd July 1967.
In 1967, the University College, Nairobi established its own medical faculty. This was the first sign of a crack within the institution; the University of East Africa came crumbling down three years later when it formally disbanded. Thus, the University of Nairobi was established on 1st July 1970.
The School of Medicine was started on 3rd July, 1967 and was officially inaugurated on 7th March, 1968. The Clinical Departments of the School are situated at Kenyatta National Hospital while the Pre-Clinical Departments are housed at the Chiromo Campus.
