The Floyd County Historical Society was founded in 1916 to study the history of Floyd County, to collect and preserve artifacts, maps, papers, pictures and any other articles that describe or illustrate the social, religious, political or industrial progress of the County.

The Indiana Pacers were founded on February 2, 1967, as an American Basketball Association franchise, and moved to the National Basketball Association in 1976. The Pacers were considered a dynasty in the ABA, winning three titles and six conference titles.
The museum's collection includes over 35,000 artifacts and documents that tell the story of Floyd County's history. The museum's exhibits cover a wide range of topics, including the area's Native American history, the Underground Railroad, and the county's role in the Civil War.
Museums & Galleries. Padgett Museum. The Padgett Museum features “By the River’s Edge” a permanent exhibit that details New Albany and Floyd County history. It displays such items as a land grant signed by Patrick Henry, the chain used to measure the original streets of New Albany, and examples of New Albany glass and pottery.
