The South Equatorial Current are ocean currents in the Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian Ocean that flow east-to-west between the equator and about 20 degrees south. In the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, it extends across the equator to about 5 degrees north.
17 paź 2022 · The South Equatorial Current (SEC) in the south Indian Ocean is a critical current that contributes to intra-basin and inter-basin mass and heat exchanges. By combining in situ observations and model experiments, this study examines the seasonal structure and the interannual variation of the SEC.
1 sty 2024 · The depth-integrated circulation in the southern Indian Ocean reveals a familiar gyre circulation with the south equatorial current and Agulhas Current as its northern and western boundaries, respectively.
16 mar 2022 · A narrow eastward jet is detected beneath the westward-flowing South Equatorial Current in the tropical South Indian Ocean (SIO) using in-situ observation and reanalysis data. This jet is dubbed the South Equatorial Undercurrent (SEUC).
The Indian Ocean gyre is composed of two major currents: the South Equatorial Current, and the West Australian Current. Normally moving counter-clockwise, in the winter the Indian Ocean gyre reverses direction due to the seasonal winds of the South Asian Monsoon.
26 lis 2021 · The very warm and fresh ITF water is funnelled into the tropical southern Indian Ocean and carried westward by the South Equatorial Current. The warm, fresh waters are much lighter than those further south, creating a north–south density (pressure) gradient that drives near-surface broad, eastward geostrophic currents between 16 and 32 ∘ S ...
21 kwi 2020 · In the climatological mean, the clockwise tropical gyre consists of the equatorial Wyrtki Jets (WJs), the South Equatorial Current (SEC), and the eastern and western boundary currents. This gyre system redistributes the water mass over the entire tropical Indian Ocean basin.
