Land trusts across the state are helping find solutions to some of North Carolina's most pressing issues. Saving family farms: The North Carolina-based Black Family Land trust, which works primarily in the Southeast, works with Black land owners and farmers to preserve their land assets.
Community Land Trusts (CLTs) hold land “in trust” for the benefit of the community while also removing it from the speculative market. The CLT model was founded in response to mistreatment of Black farmers during the civil rights movement and there are over 260 CLTs across the United States today.
