Formerly Kling Street, renamed in 1928 to acknowledge the Indian merchants who had set up businesses here; closed to traffic and converted into a pedestrian mall in 1992. This is one of the busiest streets in Kuching's Old Bazaar, popular for clothes shopping.

At first, India Street Mall was called as the Kling Street in the 1850's but the Third White Rajah of Sarawak, Sir Charles Vyner Brooke changed the name to India Street in 1928. In 1992, the street was closed to vehicular traffic and converted into a pedestrian mall.
