5 kwi 2009 · Incense-cedar is common at lower elevations in the Tahoe Basin, especially down close to the lake and in the communities ringing the shore. It rarely forms “stands” like white fir and the pines, but rather most often occurs singly – as if to emphasize their distinctiveness.

This tree is the preferred host of a wood wasp, Syntexis libocedrii a species which lays its eggs in the smoldering wood immediately after a forest fire. [6] The tree is also host to incense-cedar mistletoe (Phoradendron libocedri), a parasitic plant which can often be found hanging from its branches. [11]
It also extends into west-central Nevada near Lake Tahoe in the Washoe Mountains. In southern California, it is found in the Transverse and Peninsular Ranges, and in Baja California in the HansonLagunaandSanPedroMartirmountainranges. Adaptability is the key to the distribution of incense-cedar.

Calocedrus — commonly called Incense Cedar–is a dense, symmetrical tree with a narrow, pyramidal corwn. It has rich green foliage in flat sprays and reddish-brown bark. It has scalelike leaves in whorls of four. Calocedrus is an adaptable tree that is widely grown in the Western United States.
Incense cedar, while technically a true cedar, is an evergreen, with a narrow columnar shape when young and attains a height of 70-110’ at maturity. It has flattened branchlets which terminate in dense, fan-like aromatic sprays. Foliage is dark green all through the year.
