I've been doing the 20/50$ yahoo pub leagues since 2012, never had any issues with getting paid. You do see people going inactive once they are eliminated from playoff contention but before that everything is great.
I know r/findaleague exist, but I guess I'm not trustworthy enough to give some random person my money. Yahoo has public money leagues, but my other fear is someone just releasing their entire team when they start 0-3 and it in general just not being active. Has anyone ever played in one of these?
Yahoo keeps 10% commission, 1 buyin. That’s why private cash leagues are better. Yahoo only charges like 1-2% commission for those and the full buyin is paid out at end of season.

If a team does not pay, the draft will still proceed as scheduled but the prize contest will cancel within a few days after the completion of the draft. Teams that have paid will get refunded their fee once the prize contest does cancel and the league will revert to a free private league.
