Open Meetings Act (OMA) — Learn the law as it applies to school board meetings and members. Per 105 ILCS 120/1.05, every newly-elected or appointed school board member MUST complete this training within 90 days of taking the oath of office.
New York State law requires newly-elected school board members to complete training within their first year of service. This training requires topics on the essentials of school board governance and a minimum of six hours in fiscal oversight, accountability and fiduciary responsibilities of a school board member.

1 mar 2024 · Section 10-16a of the School Code (105 ILCS 5/10-16a) establishes training requirements for school board members. The law requires that the training be provided by “an association established under this Code” (IASB) or entities that the State Board approves in consultation with IASB.
7 kwi 2015 · All Illinois school board members must receive training in professional development leadership (P.A. 97-8) and the Open Meetings Act (P.A. 97-504). Mandatory training will also be required after the new teacher evaluation requirements are implemented in each school district.
