If you like the way IL-2 works in VR which you will, i.e. great career mode, quick missions, campaigns and superb online action then buy Kuban, Moscow, etc. Alternatively Flying Circus is superb for WW1 flying and fighting and is especially well suited for VR.

So Battle of Kuban is absolutely worth it from a content perspective with some great new aircraft and a fantastic map but the core experience is the same as the latest version of Battle of Stalingrad. By design. It's the only game in the series where you can fly over significant water.
