The five primary classes of immunoglobulins are IgG, IgM, IgA, IgD, and IgE. These are distinguished by the type of heavy chain found in the molecule. IgG molecules have heavy chains known as gamma-chains; IgMs have mu-chains; IgAs have alpha-chains; IgEs have epsilon-chains; and IgDs have delta-chains.

Each immunoglobulin has two small chains (molecular weight of 22 kD) termed light chains (LCs) (Figure 1) and two more chains (55 kD) called heavy chains (HCs). Each IgG molecule is composed of two identical LCs and two identical HCs which form a Y-shaped structure (Figure 1).

IgG antibodies are large globular proteins made of four peptide chains; [6] two identical γ (gamma) heavy chains of about 50 kDa and two identical light chains of about 25 kDa. The resulting tetrameric quaternary structure, therefore, has a total molecular weight of about 150 kDa. [7] .
24 cze 2022 · An IgG antibody comprises of heavy and light chains. It possesses the basic monomeric “H2L2” structure consisting of 2 identical Heavy (H) and 2 identical Light (L) chains. Its H-chain type is gamma (γ heavy chains) about 50 kDa in weight and each H chain is paired with an L chain of about 25 kDa.
23 sty 2024 · There are four subclasses of IgG: IgG1, IgG2, IgG3, and IgG4 which are differentiated on the position of interchain disulfide bonds, basis of the size of the hinge region and molecular weight along with differences based on the antigenic differences in structure of the heavy chain.
31 sie 2023 · The simplest antibodies, such as IgG, IgD, and IgE, are "Y"-shaped macromolecules called monomers. A monomer is composed of four glycoprotein chains: two identical heavy chains and two identical light chains. The two heavy chains have a high molecular weight that varies with the class of antibody.
