TLDR: I found a solution to Windows Defender's protection history being empty, and it should work for most people. Here's what you need to do: Go to https://www.defenderui.com/ and download DefenderUI.
I have tried everything from editing the registry keys to using GPEdit and some powershell scripts, but nothing changes. It seems to me that I am no longer able to use Microsoft Defender on the Surface, while the free version still works on my fully updated desktop. Has anyone experienced this or knows of anything?
The Protection History page in the Windows Security app is where you can go to view actions that Microsoft Defender Antivirus has taken on your behalf, Potentially Unwanted Apps that have been removed, or key services that are turned off.
If you don't trust Windows Security, just get the free version of Bitdefender or Kaspersky. But why install unneeded 3rd party software if there really isn't a practical, rather than psychological, need for it?
