The Iban religion involves worshiping and honouring at least four categories of beings, i.e. Bunsu Petara (the supreme god), and his seven deities (the divine people of Tansang Kenyalang), the holy spirits of Orang Panggau Libau and Gelong, the ghost spirits (Bunsu Antu) and the souls of dead ancestors.
Numerous local people and certain missionaries have sought to document and preserve traditional Dayak religious practices. For example, Reverend William Howell contributed numerous articles on the Iban language, lore, and culture between 1909 and 1910 to the Sarawak Gazette.

Religion, Culture and Festival. The Ibans were traditionally animist, although the majority are now Christian, some of them Muslim and many continue to observe both Christian and traditional ceremonies, particularly during marriages or festivals.
To the Iban, ADAT involves the basic values of life, including their system of agriculture, the code to which their society is ordered, as well as the 'correct' manner of behavior. Additional data in this work pertain to myths, beliefs in spirits, world view, seasonal rice cycles, and major agricultural rituals.
The Iban collection consists of 35 English language documents, covering a wide range of ethnographic topics. Predominant themes in the collection are agriculture (primarily rice cultivation), culture history, migrations, religion, and warfare (including much information on head-hunting).
