14 mar 2019 · According to downloadtimecalculator.com, I should get around 5.3MB/s in download and it should take around 2 hours 13 minutes to download.... I'm currently downloading at 248KB/s... does anybody know how I could improve this ?
As internet connections have gotten faster, it's become a pretty CPU intensive to download/install games at high speeds from the decompression overhead. Things could be improved substantially if depots were offered with zlib, where you download slightly more data but with much less processing overhead.
There are multiple factors that can cause this. Either your ISP is throttling your network, or (if) it hits 0 download speed but your disk is still being used, steam is just waiting for the downloaded files to be decompressed before continuing to download. Hence the speed drops.
