The human visual system is a network of neural components that combine to create our perception of the world and guide our behavior. Deciphering the computational principles of this system is an important scientific challenge.
The HVS has two main components, the eye (input sensor) and the brain (information processing unit), connected by the optic nerve (transmission path) (Figure A.1). Image perception consists of capturing the image with the eye, then recognizing it, and finally interpreting its contents in the brain.
brain realizes visual perception and visual con-sciousness is correspondingly high. This chapter reviews our current state of knowledge about the systems-level functional anatomy of the hu-man visual system. The emphasis will be placed on the results of fMRI as a noninvasive imaging technique that combines structural informa-
The main function of the **visual system** is to:**. a) Control eye movements b) Interpret sounds from the environment c) Detect and process light to create images d) Regulate the amount of oxygen in the blood. ---. **2. Which part of the eye is responsible for focusing light onto the retina?**.
6.1.1 Describe the region of the electromagnetic spectrum that is perceived by our visual system, and the relative energy of photons at long and short wavelengths. 6.1.2 Describe the major parts of the eye and their role in focusing light to create a clear image. In this section, we will meet the range of the electromagnetic energy spectrum ...
: Recent innovative neurological tests are described that are able to show much more accurately the visual pathways, the process of vision, and the close relationships among sensory modalities. These tests also reveal the remarkable neuroplasticity of the human brain and disorders of connectivity that frequently involve visual function ...
