Ruined Greatsword is very good but available a bit later. Iron Greatsword is probably better than the Claymore for pure strength if you like the move set . You can get it as a drop later on if you're lucky. Many other weapons can be very effective if they scale well with strength.
On my first play through and decided to go pure strength. Only have leveled strength, endurance, and vigor. Strength is now 60 and I am looking for other weapons to try. I’ve got the giant-crusher, great sword, and rusty anchor. Rusty Anchor with lion’s claw is my favorite by far.
