As internet connections have gotten faster, it's become a pretty CPU intensive to download/install games at high speeds from the decompression overhead. Things could be improved substantially if depots were offered with zlib, where you download slightly more data but with much less processing overhead.
Create a LAN CACHE, that way you will download games with your current speed instead of the limited speed from steam. I have a 950 Mb/s fiber but Steam downloads with 60 Mb/s at best. Now this is a solution a friend of mine suggested, I still have to create a lan cache myself but it sound awesome.
