There's several ways to make money. Setting up a mining farm is one way (as others suggested) it's good passive income but requires a lot for set up. You can make a respectable amount of cash if you upgrade your scanner and start scanning animals.

First (and fastest) way is to gather valuable resources like activated indium or emeril, or dig out artifact crates from ruine sites. Some artifacts sell out for more than 1 / 1.3m units or more, and you can also trade them at planetary archives for more valuable ones. Another way to get quick cash is to scan creatures and plants on planets.
