It won’t work for changing the hard disk and placing it into another PS3. The reason I’m posting this tutorial is because I wanted to change my stock 320Gb old HDD to a new 1Tb HDD.
CNet did a pretty good guide on installing and formatting replacement drives for the PS3 HERE. Use the built in PS3 backup utility to backup everything on your old drive to a FAT32-formatted external hard drive (not the replacement drive).

Irisman & Webman FTW! Although after I backed up all of my disc games using Irisman (makeps3iso), I rarely use it. Webman scans automatically for games on USB and I use prepiso to install 4GB+ packages directly from USB.
