Pokeweed is not typically sold in nurseries, as it isn’t a typical ‘garden friendly’ plant. I have never seen it for sale at any nursery. But, as a native plant, it is possible that it may be purchased at specialty nurseries that deal in Native Plants.

Generally speaking, native plants are considered desirable since they support wildlife, can improve water quality while requiring less water themselves, are beautiful in the landscape, are generally more tolerant of climate conditions and soil types, and much more.
Phytolacca americana. Herbaceous plant that grows 3-10 feet tall. Widely branched, shaped like a small tree. Smooth, succulent stems are often bright red but may be purple or green. Mature plants are poisonous to livestock and humans.
Range & Habitat: The native Pokeweed occurs in most areas of Illinois, except for some counties in the NW section of the state (see Distribution Map). This plant is quite common where it occurs, and widely regarded as a common weed.
11 wrz 2021 · Use a sharp spade to get more of the roots out if you can. You can also treat the cut end of the pokeweed with a nonselective herbicide like glyphosate to kill the plant.
19 wrz 2023 · Pokeweed can be effectively removed by manually digging up the plant and its taproot or by using an herbicide containing glyphosate. Manually removing the plant is the safest and most eco-friendly method but herbicides can be used carefully if needed.
Since common pokeweed problems are relatively new in Illinois, we need to look to neighboring states that have dealt with this problem in the past to find effective control measures.
