You can restore your chats from Messenger secure storage with a PIN. You can also reset your PIN if you've forgotten it.
As others have said though, the solution seems to be to search from messenger not directly in the conversation itself. Your chat history is not lost. The move to end-to-end encryption means that messages are stored on your devices vs Meta servers so you need to backup your chats with secure storage.
