Dragon Caves are underground structures that house one level 4 or 5 dragon. Dragon caves are the only natural spawning place of wild stage 4 and 5 dragons, of which the females drop Dragon Eggs. As of yet, there is no reliable way of locating a dragon cave in survival.
Ice caves are 636 (probably more/less) from fire caves, depending on where the glacier biome/ice plains are. In the middle of a dragon roost, at least at height 66 or more/less, dragon caves can be found 30 blocks below and 50-60 outward from a roost from what I've seen.
One time I just opened a portal to the nether went through then went back and I was in a level 5 fire dragon cave, so honestly all I know is that it’s underground. While exploring the world you should be able to hear the dragon’s roars and then dig underground to find him.

If you have journeymap, set to always map caves, and look for a large open area on the lowest cave map. if you have the scanner from scannable you can tell it to look for either the charred cobblestone/dirt or the frozen cobblestone and add 2 range upgrades and go around looking for underground lairs.
