Trees grow naturally in the Forest and The Park, where you can break logs and the decaying leaves will drop saplings. It is also possible to plant saplings on your private island, which grow normally and will drop additional saplings once chopped down.

Use the sticks to build a crook, break the rest of the wood and begin using the slabs to set up a platform, whilst use the crook to break the leaves for a higher sapling chance. Unfortunately, sometimes bad luck just happens.
