Radiosurgery or fractionated radiotherapy may be complementary therapies or even alternative approaches to surgery in certain situations.
21 maj 2021 · The cornerstone for the diagnosis of meningioma is MRI, with a typical presentation as a well circumscribed dural lesion with homogeneous enhancing. 68-gallium-labeled somatostatin receptor analog (68 Ga-DOTATATE) could have a diagnostic role in detecting recurrence in irradiated meningiomas.
The provisional diagnosis of meningioma is mainly made by MRI. Definitive diagnosis, including histological classification, grading, and molecular profiling, requires a surgical procedure to obtain tumour tissue. Therefore, in many elderly patients, observation is the best therapeutic option.
Patients with suspected meningioma should have standard structural MRI (defined as T2 weighted, FLAIR, DWI series and T1 pre- and post-contrast volume) as the initial diagnostic test, unless MRI is contraindicated. CT imaging should be considered if bone involvement is suspected.
