Health entities reported a 9% ($15 billion) increase in capital and surplus to $191 billion from $176 billion at Dec. 31, 2020 as illustrated in Figure 15. The increase is due primarily to net income of $19 billion, a $3 billion increase in unrealized capital gains, and paid-in surplus of $8 billion.
